Jim Ingram

Head Coach / General Manager

Jim is entering his fourth season with the Smoke Eaters.  He spent three years doing the same job with the Kerry Park Islanders of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League. His stint there included back-to-back regular season championships and Cyclone Taylor provincial berths.

Jim's other experience with the BCHL includes a one-year stint as assistant coach to Scott Robinson with the Cowichan Valley Capitals, and as a player with the Nanaimo Clippers and Merritt Centennials.

Jim creates an environment of player development with high expectations of work ethic and commitment to team goals. Jim and his staff are very passionate about working with and developing home-grown talent.

Coach Ingram has become part of the Trail community along with his wife Dee, daughter Emma and twin sons Nathan and Marty.

  

Barry Zanier

Assistant Coach

Barry Zanier is back for his 9th season as an assistant coach with the Smokies.

Barry has had involvement with the Trail Minor Hockey Program - working with Pee-Wee and Bantam aged players prior to joining the Smoke Eaters. In addition, he served as Player/Coach with the Senior Smoke Eaters in the mid 1980's.

In his playing days, Barry was a prominent member of the Smoke Eaters and Senior Smoke Eaters. Sandwiched in between his career in Trail, Barry was a member of the UBC Varsity Thunderbirds where he played and earned his Bachelor Degree in Education.

Barry teaches Elementary School in Rossland, where he has lived for over 20 years with his wife Aileen. They have 3 daughters - Taryn, Kailyn and Kolby.

 

Bill Birks

Assistant Coach

Bill joins the Smoke Eaters as an assistant coach for the 2010-2011 season.

He has previous experience as a BCHL assistant in Merritt where he worked under Al Glendinning for 2 seasons.  Birks has also done some scouting and minor hockey coaching.

As a player Birks spent the late 80s with Merritt in the BCHL and then moved on to minor pro hockey where he suited up for the famous Johnstown Chiefs in the ECHL.

Steve Mears

Trainer

Steve is entering his second season as the trainer for the Smoke Eaters. 

He's a retired military man who has made Trail his home with his wife and two kids.  

The Mears crew first got involved with the Smokies as a billet family and now both Steve's kids are regularely helping him out with his work at the Cominco Arena.
