COMITTMENT – HUNTER FLORIS COMMITS IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY

For Immediate Release

Hunter Floris Commits to Iowa State Cyclones of the ACHA

Trail, British Columbia (July 20th, 2021) – The Trail Smoke Eaters are excited to announce the commitment of Hunter Floris to Iowa State University of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA).

Floris, who joined the Smoke Eaters in January from the Nelson Leafs, will be taking the next step forward in his hockey career as he commits to the Iowa State Cyclones. Floris has had a busy junior career. He split his Major midget years between the Kootenay Ice and the Cariboo Cougars, scoring 122 points in 118 games. From midget, Floris took his talents to the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), where after a brief stint with the Bonnyville Pontiacs, he settled in Olds with the Grizzlies. There he’d score 63 points in 97 games while also being named team captain in his second year. After the 2019/2020 season concluded Floris made his way back to the Kootenay’s where an abbreviated stint with the Nelson Leafs due to Covid-19 saw him add five more points to his junior totals in just 3 games. He was also an assistant captain in Nelson before he joined the Smoke Eaters for the pod season in Penticton. He’d add one heck of a goal for his first BCHL marker against the Vees near the tail end of the season. As Floris now moves on the ACHA and the college level, the Smoke Eaters would like to congratulate him on earning his college commitment and thank him for his contributions both on and off the ice while he was a Smoke Eater.

“My time in Trail was short-lived, but I couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity by getting to finish my junior career with the Smoke Eaters and with my little brother playing by my side. When I came into the team, I was welcomed by all of the players and coaching staff with open arms. It was a difficult year, but I’m thankful that we had the chance to play some games! Thank you to all of our amazing fans for your support through the past challenging season. I’m very excited to be continuing my hockey path with Iowa State University and what will come with this next chapter of my career.” – Hunter Floris

:We would like to congratulate Hunter and his family on his commitment to Iowa State. Hunter joined us late this season however he brought experience, emotion and leadership to our group during the Pod Season. As he transitions to being a student athlete at the university level, we want to wish him the best in all his future endeavours.” HC & GM Tim Fragle

The Smoke Eaters would like to wish Hunter and his family good luck as he takes these next steps as he joins a long list of Smoke Eater Alumni.
