NEWS: Four Smoke Eaters make Team Canada West

Four Smoke Eaters named to final 22 man roster for Team Canada West.

Trail, British Columbia (December 3rd, 2019) – Hockey Canada announced today their decisions for 22 players who will dawn the Maple Leaf for Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge (WJAC) in Dawson Creek, BC.

The Smoke Eaters sent a league high five players to the Canada West camp in Calgary this week with four making the final cut. Smoke Eaters captain Philippe Lapointe, who was just name BCHL Player of the Week , was named to the team. He will be joined along side the BCHL’s league leading scorer Kent Johnson, Owen Ozar who sits firth in league scoring and defenceman Powell Connor rounds out the group representing the Smoke Eaters.

In total 11 BCHL players made the cut with the Smoke Eaters having the most of any team with four.

Lapointe will wear #11, Johnson #13, Ozar #20 and Connor #4.

Team Canada West’s competition at the WJAC includes Canada East, Czech Republic, Russia and the United States.

Canada West kicks off its tournament Dec. 7 against the United States.

All games will be broadcast on the Hockey Canada website and on Hockey TV.

TSN and RDS will broadcast the bronze and gold medal games on Dec. 15.
