Ozar commits to the University of Denver

Trail, British Columbia (September 5th, 2019) – The Trail Smoke Eaters are proud to announce that Owen Ozar has committed to the University of Denver’s Div. 1 team for the 2021-22 season.

The Prince Albert, Saskatchewan native is going into his second season in Trail, following a strong rookie season with 14 goals and 12 assists in 42 games. Before making the jump to the BCHL, Ozar captained the Swift Current Legionaries in 2017-18, putting up 55 points along the way.

“We are extremely proud of Owen and his commitment to Denver. He’s a high character kid who is very deserving of a full scholarship. We’re looking forward on continuing to work with Owen and prepare him for the next level.” – GM & HC Jeff Tambellini.

Ozar will join the Denver Pioneers in the 2021-22 season, meaning he intends to play Junior A for two more seasons. He’s also coming off a strong preseason where he notched two game winners vs West Kelowna this past weekend. He won the game Saturday on the road with this.

Ozar will head to Denver looking to add himself to a long list of players who went on the the NHL. The Denver Alumni include former BCHLers Danton Heinen, Patrick Wiercoch and Stanley Cup Champions Tyler Bozak and Beau Bennett, along with current NHLers Paul Stastny (STL) and Jason Zucker (MIN).
