Preview – Game 54 As the Smoke Eaters Look For A Weekend Sweep Over The Wild

Coming off a 5-2 win on Friday night, the Smoke Eaters will look to close out the season with back to back wins over the Wild, as they aim to head into the post season on a high note.

Dec. 2 Wenatchee 5 at Trail 6 Final
Mar. 24 Trail 5 at Wenatchee 2 Final

The Smoke Eaters will look to repeat their Friday night performance as they close out the regular season against Wenatchee. The Smoke Eaters surged past the wild with a flurry of goals in the back half of the first period, scoring shorthanded, 5-on-5 and on the powerplay. Cobetto-Roy scored his 15th of the year 1:16 into the game to get the Smoke Eaters off and rolling. Then after the Wild tied up the game, Hunter, Remissong and Bushy would all score in a span of two minutes to give Trail a 4-1 lead through the first. The Smoke Eaters penalty Kill went a perfect 2/2 while the powerplay went 1/4.

Smoke Eaters leading scorers:

Hunter (17-43-60)
Cobetto-Roy (15-28-43)
Remissong (16-19-35)
Bushy (7-27-34)
Marshall (13-19-32)

The Wild will be looking to bounce back in their final home game of the season, with home ice advantage in the post season now out of reach. The Wild sit three points out of the three way tie for third place and can now only move up to sixth, should Vernon lose in Merritt tonight. The Wild won’t be focused on that, knowing that is something they can’t control. Instead they’ll be focused on what they can control and that’s closing out the season on home ice with two points. Wenatchee steadily out shot the Smoke Eaters all night, finishing with 37 on the night to the Smoke Eaters 25, but couldn’t solve Kendrick more than twice. The Wild with the fifth ranked powerplay in the league failed to get on the board last night, something they’ll be hoping to change tonight.

Wild leading scorers:

Somoza (22-52-74)
Littler (29-37-66)
Berger (24-28-52)
Weilandt (19-23-42)
Murray (23-16-39)

It’s game 54/54 as the Smoke Eaters and Wild close out their season series and the regular season tonight at the Town Toyota Centre. Puck drop is 6:05pm from Wenatchee, catch all the action on HockeyTV or listen in on the Smoke Eaters Mixlr.
