Preview – Home Opener, Smoke Eaters Look For Revenge Against The Bucks

After falling short the night before in Cranbrook, the Smoke Eaters return home for the first time since February of 2020, to play for two points in front of their home fans.

The Smoke Eaters make their debut tonight in front of the Trail faithful and they’ll look to leave a significant impression after falling Friday night in Cranbrook. The energy was there but also so were the nerves for many players making their BCHL debuts. But as the game went on it was the inability to handle the pressure in the middle frame as a relentless waive of Cranbrook pressure came at the Smoke Eaters that made the difference after 60 minutes. Take away the second period and the Smoke Eaters win 3-2, that will be part of the focus tonight against the Bucks as the home and home series comes to an end.

Smoke Eaters leading scorers:

Moger (1-1-2)
Lagerback (1-0-1)
Michaelis (1-0-1)
Cunningham (0-1-1)
Schenk (0-1-1)

The Bucks got the job done on home ice and will now be looking to repeat that feat in enemy territory. After a first official BCHL win on home ice in franchise history, the Bucks will be looking to make it a weekend double. Ryan Donald will be happy once again with his team’s start and their second period, but will want to clean up the third period performance after the game got a lot closer than he would have liked. Now as they get on the bus and come to Trail, the Bucks will have eye’s on a 2-0 start to their BCHL season. Tyson Dyck led the way Friday for the Bucks with a two goal, one assist performance that got the night going. Him, along with line mates Noah Quinn and Luke Pfoh were a threat all night and will cause team’s problems should they continue to play the way they did last night. The Bucks will look for another strong start to quiet the Cominco crowd.

Cranbrook Bucks leading scorers:

Dyck (2-1-3)
Quinn (1-2-3)
Assailly (0-2-2)
Bentham (0-2-2)
King (1-0-1)
