PREVIEW – Smoke Eaters Host Eagles In Final Home Game Of The Season

The Smoke Eaters will look to repeat their performance from Friday night as they welcome in the Surrey Eagles on Awards night, as they close out their regular season home schedule.

Remaining Regular Season Games:

Mar. 11 Surrey 7:00 pm PST
Mar. 17 at Vernon 7:00 pm PDT
Mar. 18 at Vernon 6:00 pm PDT
Mar. 24 at Wenatchee 7:05 pm PDT
Mar. 25 at Wenatchee 6:05 pm PDT

Coming off a 5-2 win over Coquitlam and a strong third period performance, the Smoke Eaters will play hosts one final time this regular season as the Eagles make their way to Trail from Cranbrook. It was one of the healthiest lineups the Smoke Eaters have been able to put forward in weeks and they still had four affiliate players in the lineup. From a forwards perspective the Smoke Eaters had three solid lines of regular BCHL forwards and it showed, where in past weeks it’s been a line or a line and a half of there regular forward core. The Smoke Eaters poured on the pressure for a near consistent 60 minutes on Friday night and for them to finally be rewarded with a win should go a long way as they prepare for the postseason. Brady Hunter and Mathieu Cobetto-Roy are both coming off three point nights, while Schenk had a pair of goals bringing his season total to 13.

Smoke Eaters leading scorers:

Hunter (16-40-56)
Cobetto-Roy (12-27-39)
Remissong (15-19-34)
Bushy (6-27-33)
Parsons (12-17-29)

The Eagles will be looking for a bounce back performance after getting blanked in Cranbrook on Friday night. The Eagles (31-14-2-1) have been on a win one lose one trend over their last five games despite being 7-3-0 over their last ten games. Sitting firmly in second place in the Coastal Conference the Eagles are 5W-4L against Interior teams so far this year, beating Merritt twice, Prince George, Vernon and Wenatchee while dropping games against Penticton, Cranbrook, West Kelowna and Salmon Arm. The loss to the Bucks on Friday night was just the second time the Eagles have failed to score in a game this year, with just 14 regulation losses on the year the Eagles, who led the way in the Coastal for much of the season, are one of the best the BCHL has to offer this season and have lost back to back games only three times this season.

Eagles leading scorers:

Bonkowski (25-26-51)
Bongo (19-31-50)
Schwartz (18-25-43)
Taylor (11-32-43)
Galata (8-32-40)
