PREVIEW – Smoke Eaters Host Silverbacks For A Sunday Matinee At Cominco

The Smoke Eaters will look to replicate their performance from a month ago when Salmon Arm last came to town, as they host the Silverbacks in a rare Sunday game at Cominco.

Season series against Salmon Arm:

Oct. 14 Salmon Arm 3 at Trail 4 Final
Nov. 13 Salmon Arm at Trail 3:00 pm PST
Dec. 17 Salmon Arm at Trail 7:00 pm PST
Jan. 14 Trail at Salmon Arm 6:00 pm PST
Mar. 1 Trail at Salmon Arm 6:00 pm PST

The Smoke Eaters are coming off a 2-1 shootout loss, that despite a shortened lineup and missing four regulars from their forward group, felt pretty good. While you never want to lose a game this one is different and could be a turning point for the Smoke Eaters. The Vees had walked through the BCHL up until last night, with the Smoke Eaters being the first team to hold Penticton to just one goal in regulation, it’s also the first time they didn’t score at least three. Also given the last two results the Smoke Eaters had against the Vees, to lose in a shootout proved the Smoke Eaters have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with the best of them. Now as the Silverbacks come to town the Smoke Eaters, still shorthanded, will need another strong performance on home ice if they want to come away with two points.

Smoke Eaters leading scorers:

Remissong (8-6-14)
Parsons (7-7-14)
Fechko (5-9-14)
Cobetto-Roy (4-8-12)
Disher (4-8-12)

The Silverbacks come to Trail off a third straight win on Friday night, winning 6-5 over the Powell River Kings. The Backs currently sit fourth in the interior conference, five points up on the Smoke Eaters. Salmon have won four of their last five games with three of them being one goal games and the other a 4-2 win over Chilliwack. The Backs loss however was a 7-1 defeat to West Kelowna, a score line that definitely stands out, given the run of results and low scoring games the Silverbacks have played in. Owen Beckner and Ethan Ullrick, who scored the Silverbacks three goals back on October 14th, continue to lead the way for the Silverbacks, with Beckner putting up 19 points in 16 games.

Silverbacks leading scorers:

Beckner (8-11-19)
Ullrick (8-7-15)
Santa Juana (5-10-15)
Mackie (10-4-14)
Lambert (5-6-11)

Puck drop between the Smoke Eaters and the Silverbacks is set for 3:00PM this afternoon at Cominco Arena.
