Preview: Smoke Eaters look to make it five in a row Saturday in Penticton

Following a big win over the Merritt Centennials on Friday afternoon the Trail Smoke Eaters get ready for a 1pm puck drop against the Prince George Spruce Kings.

As the fourth and final day of the BCHL Showcase Festival kicks off in Penticton the Smoke Eaters come into today’s game with a lot of confidence riding a four game point streak.

Regular Season vs. Prince George

September 28th @ Rolling Mix Concrete Arena 3-0 W (BOXSCORE)

October 5th @ South Okanagan Event Centre 1pm (BCHL Showcase)

January 29th @ Cominco Arena 7pm

The Smoke Eaters will try and extend their win streak and get back to .500 hockey as they take on the Prince George Spruce Kings at 1pm in Penticton. Both teams are coming off wins in their first games at the showcase with the Smoke Eaters winning in the more convincing fashion than the Spruce Kings. The Smokies were able to put seven past the Merritt goaltenders with scoring coming from throughout the lineup. The Smokies got goals from DiMurro, Ozar, Senkoe, Johnson, Elmer and two from Colella. Logan Terness was strong again in net allowing only one goal that came late in the third. The Smoke Eaters are continuing to get consistent performances from many of the top guys while everyone on the bench played a strong game and could have easily found their name on the score sheet.

The defensive side of the Smoke Eaters game has also come together nicely over the last two weeks as they’ve allowed only 4 goals over their last four games while offensively they’ve scored 21 goals in that same time. A week after shutting out the Spruce Kings on the road the Smokies will look to take another two points from the defending champs who picked up a close victory over the West Kelowna Warriors 3-2 on Friday morning.

The Spruce Kings got the winner from Chong Min Lee part way through the third period as they would hang on late to beat the Warriors. They’ll now be looking for some revenge against the Smoke Eaters who shut them out at home. However the Spruce Kings are one of the more banged up teams in the BCHL with a lengthy list of injuries. They’ll hope some of their veterans can continue to lead the way and their call ups can chip in as well.

Puck drop is at 1pm at the SOEC as the Smoke Eaters (AWAY) wrap up their weekend looking to continue their momentum as they would love nothing more then to get another win against the Spruce Kings (HOME). The pregame show starts at 12:50pm with coaches comments from Jeff Tambellini and Alex Evin.
