Preview – Smoke Eaters Wrap Up Weekend Series with Spruce Kings on Sunday Afternoon

The Smoke Eaters come into Sunday’s game with three of four points already from the previous two meetings, looking to tack on another two points before leaving Prince George and heading back to Trail. But they’ll have to pick themselves up after last nights overtime heartbreaker, and get set for a quick turn around and a 3pm start.

Season Series Against Prince George

Nov. 18 Prince George 4 at Trail 3 Final
Jan. 27 Trail 4 at Prince George 2 Final
Jan. 28 Trail 3 at Prince George 4 Final OT
Jan. 29 Trail at Prince George 3:00 pm PST
Feb. 4 Prince George at Trail 7:00 pm PST

The Smoke Eaters come into Sunday with an opportunity to win two of three on the weekend as now they are in a position to respond after coming just short of back to back wins. It’s understandable that they may be a little down on themselves after falling short last night, but when you look at the game as a whole, to come away with a point, once again strike on the powerplay and have a perfect night again on the penalty kill. All positives that the Smoke Eaters can take into Sunday’s game as they look to close the gap on the Spruce Kings. Both Hunter and Bushy were influential in the comeback performance, and they’ll be some of the guys leaned on again this afternoon. The good news though for the Smoke Eaters is that Adam Marshall avoided suspension, and will be available for this afternoon.

Smoke Eater leading scorers:

Hunter (10-23-33)
Cobetto-Roy (10-20-30)
Remissong (14-11-25)
Bushy (4-21-25)
Parsons (11-12-23)

The Spruce Kings responded and while it may not have been the perfect performance they got the job done on home ice. Like the Smoke Eaters there was a lot of positive’s that the Spruce Kings can take from last nights win. That being said there are some area’s they’ll want to improve on, and that’s the powerplay, that has gone 0/10 on the weekend and failed to score on what proved to be a pivotal penalty kill in the outcome of the game. Expect another push by Prince George as they look to take the extra points and turn the weekend outcome in their favour.

Spruce Kings leading scorers:

Herrington (17-17-34)
Schneider (15-13-28)
Fraser (10-17-27)
McGregor-Bennett (8-16-24)
Primerano (6-18-24)

The final part of this three game set gets going at 3pm from Kopar Memorial Arena in Prince George as the Smoke Eaters and Spruce Kings battle for two more crucial points. Catch all the action on HockeyTV or listen for free on Mixlr.
