Recap: Moger Scores lone goal in 6-1 loss to the Vees

The Smoke Eaters were unable to solve the Vees on Sunday afternoon as Penticton improved to 5-0 on the season while the Smoke Eaters dropped to 2-4 following a 6-1 loss.

Head coach Tim Fragle said pre-game that the team was not happy with their last performance against the Vees, a 6-0 loss on Thursday night. With another six goals allowed the Smoke Eaters will be glad to have two days off after a busy week to get some practice time in. The opening minutes started well again for the Smoke Eaters, with a back and forth style of game as each team got into the game. However every bounce just seemed to go the Vees way in the first period as they would score 4 unanswered, including their first two just 16 seconds apart. Fin Williams and Tom Richter scored the opening two goals at 5:01 and 5:17 for the Vees. Ryan Mcguire scored five minutes later with his second of the year to make it 3-0. Then Jacob Quillan added his third of the year to round out a strong period from the Vees making it 4-0.

The second was scoreless with the Vees still controlling much of the play and holding the Smoke Eaters to just four shots. in the third the Vees added two more with goals from Mcguire and Luc Wilson to make it 6-0. But before the game was out Cameron Moger would score his first BCHL goal, shorthanded as well, to break the Vees shutout bid. The Smoke Eaters would got 0/2 on the Able Plastics powerplay and 5/7 on the Flying Steam Shovel penalty kill. The Smoke Eaters now have two days off before they take on the Vees once again on Wednesday night.
