RECAP – Shorthanded Smoke Eaters Fall 4-2 to the Spruce Kings

The Smoke Eaters, down to 10 forwards on Sunday afternoon, pushed late but fall 4-2 to the Spruce Kings to wrap up their three game set in Prince George.

The Smoke Eaters and Spruce Kings traded goals in the first period as Owen Goodbrand for the second consecutive night tipped a point shot past the Smoke Eaters netminder giving the home side the lead. However, as they had done all weekend the Smoke Eaters did well to respond, as Connor Seeley would get in on the scoring, combining with Remissong and Hamilton to tie the game at one just over a minute later.

The Smoke Eaters would head to the second period tied at 1 and would take the lead halfway through the second period thanks to a breakaway goal from Ethan Mann, who made a great move to his backhand after receiving a stretch pass from Adam Marshall, giving Trail a 2-1 lead.

The Spruce Kings would respond however with two quick goals of their own, as Makow and Schneider scored 49 seconds apart, giving the Spruce Kings a 3-2 lead, and a lead they would never give up. Stockfish would double the Spruce Kings lead early in the third, making it 4-2 PG. The Smoke Eaters would give it a strong push, adding 15 shots in the third, to the Spruce Kings 9, with 10 of those in the final few minutes as they looked to close the gap.

The Smoke Eaters close out the weekend going 1-1-1 in PG, picking up 3/6 points as they return for a weekend at home against the Vernon Vipers and the Spruce Kings.
