RECAP: Smoke Eaters fall 4-1 to the Express on Friday night

The Smoke Eaters scored first, battled hard, but couldn’t find the goals, as the Express take a 4-1 win on home ice.

With both teams missing some top level talent it was the Express who were able to find more goals on Friday night. The Smoke Eaters started strong and opened the scoring thanks to Chase Dafoe. Dafoe took a pass from Ghirardosi from the corner and was alone in front to beat Clay Stevenson at 6:49 of the first. The teams then went back and forth for the next 8 minutes as play continued without a whistle. But finally it was a penalty against the Smoke Eaters that drew a break. The Express would score on that power play as the shot from Will Margel bounced its way through to tie the game at 1 after 20 minutes.

In the second it was any body’s game until a call went against the Smoke Eaters giving the Express their second power play of the night. They took advantage quickly as Ethan O’Rourek would score on a back door feed for the eventual game winner.  Christian Macdougall would score 2:30 later to make it 3-1 for the Express, giving the hometown team a two goal lead going to the third.

In the third the Express shut things down and would get an insurance marker at 11:33 of the third to make it 4-1 and keep the Express undefeated on home ice.

The Smoke Eaters now reset for Saturday nights game in Langley with a rematch against the Rivermen. Puck drop is 7:15pm
