RECAP: Smoke Eaters fall to the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon

A strong third period helped propel the Alberni Valley Bulldogs past the Smoke Eaters on Sunday afternoon.

With a packed house in Campbell River the Smoke Eaters jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening period. The Bulldogs had the better start creating opportunities but the Smoke Eaters held firm and would open the scoring at 6:25 of the first period. Braden Costello, who has missed the last few games with an injury made an immediate impact as he tipped a point shot from DiMurro, past Bulldogs goaltender Jackson Glassford, for the opening goal. Then later in the period the Smokies would lose Chase Dafoe to injury but would receive a five minute power play. On the ensuing man advantage Tyler Ghirardosi would score sending the Smoke Eaters to the intermission up 2-0.

In the second the Bulldogs would get within one on the goal from Moe Acee who beat Logan Terness with a point shot through the crowd. The Smoke Eaters were caught with a mixed unit and out of position, as Walker Erickson went down with an injury at centre ice causing all kinds of mayhem as he struggled to the bench. The Smokies were now shorthanded two players for the rest of the game.

In the third the Bulldogs pushed and finally broke through the Smoke Eaters defence with two quick goals from Mitch Deelstra to tie, and then 12s later, get the eventual game winning goal. The Bulldogs would add two more on back to back power plays to take it 5-2.

The Smoke Eaters still sit 3rd in the interior division and will reset for two home games this weekend against the Langley Rivermen and Chilliwack Chiefs Friday and Saturday at Cominco
