Recap – Smoke Eaters get the split in Prince George with a 3-2 win on Saturday night

It wasn’t pretty but the Smoke Eaters got the job done on Saturday night, earning a 3-2 win over the Prince George Spruce Kings to get the weekend split.

It started with a weird goal against as Prince George got all kinds of puck luck that allowed them to break to the net and beat Evan Fradette just 24 seconds into the game. From there it was all Spruce Kings but Fradette stood firm stopping the next 11 he’d face in the period. The Smoke Eaters weren’t hemmed in the entire period, however the failed to get much going in the offensive zone, being credited with just one shot to open the game.

The second was much better from a Smoke Eater perspective, while still being outshot 11-5 they got on the board courtesy of Christian Lowe who scored his first as a Smoke Eaters to level the game out at 1.

The Smoke Eaters would see out the second period backed by some strong penalty killing and some strong goaltending to send this one to the third all tied up at 1

In the third the Smoke Eaters pushed for the win and were rewarded for their efforts scoring twice to secure the win. Firstly Quinn Disher set up Teddy Lagerback for his fourth of the year just prior to the mid way mark of the third period.

A few minutes later after some continued pressure the Smoke Eaters got a third and the eventual game winner from captain Coalson Wolford, who read the bank shot from Evan Bushy to put home his third of the year.

The Spruce Kings would get back within one with under five minutes to go in the third but that’s as close as they’d get with the Smoke Eaters seeing this on out for a 3-2 win on the road. Trail retunrs home now for a three game homestand with games Wednseday (Nov. 10th) against Merritt, Saturday (Nov. 13th) verses Alberni Valley and then Sunday afternoon (Nov. 14th) against the Victoria Grizzlies.
