RECAP: Smoke Eaters Shutout Spruce Kings in 3-0 win

The Trail Smoke Eaters snap a five year losing streak in Prince George as they pick up a 3-0 win on the road Saturday night.

The Smoke Eaters have now won three-in-a-row as they continue to trend in the right direction. It was a game that the Smokies controlled most of the possession and were very sound defensively for the entire 60 minutes. They got things going thanks to a power play goal from Mike Colella who went short side top corner to open the scoring late in the first!

The Smoke Eaters continued to create opportunities through out the second and it was Colby Elmer who really killed the game off as he picked up the puck on the left side went into the Spruce Kings zone and wrapped one on Alexander to make it 2-0 late in the second.

Liam Freeborn would pick up his second of the year on a tap in. Colella would out wait the Prince George netminder and find a perfect pass on the 2-on-1 to make it 3-0 5:52 into the third period.

Donovan Buskey would hold down the fort late making a few big saves to earn his first BCHL Shutout stopping all 14 shots he faced.

Mike Colella was named first star while Owen Ozar picked up a second star nod and Keiran O’Hearn took home the third star with a strong performance on the back end.

Jameson Murray also made his BCHL debut and aside from a penalty on his opening shift had a solid performance for the Smokies.

The Smoke Eaters are back in action next weekend at the BCHL Showcase in Penticton as they take on the Merritt Centennials at 4pm on Friday October 4th and then have a rematch with the Spruce Kings on Saturday October 5th at 1pm. Both games can be caught on HockeyTV and Mixlr.
