Recap – Smoke Eaters Silence Spruce Kings In First Game of Triple Header

The Smoke Eaters picked up a much needed win on Friday night in Prince George, snapping their slump and setting the tone for the next two games to come as they beat the Spruce Kings 4-2 in Prince George on Friday night.

With a short lineup and a change in line combinations the Smoke Eaters came strong out of the gate, at one point outshooting the Spruce Kings 11-1 part way through the first period. The Smoke Eaters found the back of the net twice in the first and it was the usual suspects as Adam Parson combined with line mates Nicholas Remissong and Judah Makway to beat Jordan Fairlie on the glove side. giving the Smoke Eaters a lead that they would never give up.

The Smoke Eaters would double their lead as they got the powerplay to strike five minutes later, and it took just five seconds from when the puck was dropped for Hunter and Bushy to find Cobetto-Roy for his trademark one timer to beat Fairlie.

The Smoke Eaters would then kill off a late powerplay in the first period to see them head to the break up 2-0 over the hometown Spruce Kings.

The Spruce Kings would get on the board  in the second as Evan Fedele would cut to the middle and get a shot past the blocker side of Kendrick just three minutes into the second. However 43 seconds later Jordan Hendry would restore the Smokies two goal lead, as he took the pass from behind the PG net from Ethan Mann and would fined the top corner to make it 3-1.

Jump ahead to the third period where again the Smoke Eaters and Spruce Kings would exchange goals. The Spruce Kings again cut the lead to just one, 27 seconds into the third period and Schnieder took advantage of a fortunate bounce off the end boards. But again the Smoke Eaters would call on Jordan Hendry to restore the two goal lead and see the team off to a 4-2 victory as Adam Marshall found Hendry unmarked in front of the PG net, scoring his third goal of the year and second of the night. The Smoke Eaters would lock things down defensively through the next 18 minutes and hold on for two big points over the Spruce Kings.

The Smoke Eaters will look to repeat tonight’s performance on Saturday night as they once again battle the Spruce Kings.
