Recap: Smokies battled hard, fall in a close one to the Wild

The Trail Smoke Eaters fell 3-1 on Friday night in Wentachee as they kicked off their 3 game weekend south of the boarder.

The Smoke Eaters were under pressure early on in this one and fell behind after an outlet pass hit Ozar in the back of the skate. That lead to a short handed breakaway the other way for the Wild as Chorske would make no mistake beating Buskey in tight. The Smokies didn’t let that discourage them as they fought back and created chances late in the first, but ultimately could find an answer for Daniel Chenard. Chenard who was praised by head coach for the Wild Bliss Littler pre game as being the reason his side had won games early on. That trend continued tonight as the Wild netminder stopped 27 of 28 in his 4th win of the year.

After a dominate second the Smokies finally got one past Chenard as Ozar deflected his second of the year into the net after Powell Connor found him open at the side of the net.

Penalties were the Smoke Eaters downfall in the third as they simply ran out of time. With some calls going their way late to give them a 6-on-4 in the closing minutes and others far from going there way. The were 5/5 on the PK but game up 2 short handed goals as the Wild would add the empty net while down a man.

The Smoke Eaters can’t linger on this too long as they continue there 3 game weekend tomorrow night in West Kelowna with a 6pm puck drop from Royal LePage Place.
