RECAP: Smokies score five unanswered to win eighth straight game

In a night where giants and streaks fell with Alberni beating Penticton the Smokies continued to win games as they beat the Grizzlies 5-1 Saturday night at The Q Centre.

The Smoke Eaters came out with a lot of jump early on, out shooting the grizzlies 9-3 in the first half of the period. The Grizzlies settled things down and got the first goal as Davenport beat Terness on the blocker side. The Smokies would answer back with DiMurro continuing his dominance from the back end with under three minutes to go ripped one blocker side on Howe makes it 1-1 going to the intermission.

The Smokies Eaters continued to poor on the pressure as Johnson had a seeing eye wrist shot on the powerplay early in the second made it 2-1. Costello would score just 4 mins later with a rocket of his own bar down on Howe to make it 3-1 for the Smoke Eaters. The game stood on the edge then late in the period as Murray was assessed a major penalty with 4:43 to go in the second. But the Smoke Eaters defenceman played lights out defence and killed off the entire five minute major giving the Grizzlies nothing

The Smoke Eaters then got a short Handed goal from Kryski in the third and a second powerplay goal from Johnson to seal the game and extend the win streak to seven. Colella and Ozar got in on the scoring as well to extend their point streaks as well.

The Smoke Eaters now shift their focus to Surrey, as they will play the Eagles Sunday afternoon at 4pm looking for an eighth straight win.
