Smoke Eaters Make Gurney Signing Official
Trail, British Columbia (September 28th, 2020) – The Trail Smoke Eaters are excited to announce the signing of WHL veteran Justyn Gurney for the upcoming season.
Gurney, a 19-year-old from Delta, B.C. has spent the majority of his junior career in the WHL with a brief stint with the Surrey Eagles back in 2018/19. His BCHL rights were acquired last season as part of the Cody Schiavon trade in October of last year. With 175 games in the WHL, Gurney has split his time between the Calgary Hitmen and the Everett Silvertips. During his short BCHL tenure, Gurney had 13 points in 23 games with the Eagles.
As mentioned on The Smoke Show podcast, Gurney has emerged as an exciting player through main camp being added to this Smoke Eaters roster. His pace alone is a promising trait for this season.
“Justyn brings a lot to our group. He plays with energy, he has size and is hard to play against. His experience will allow him to play in all situations for our team.” – GM&HC Tim Fragle
The Smoke Eaters would like to formally welcome Justyn to Trail. We look forward to seeing him in action as the Smoke Eaters prepare for their first exhibition game this Saturday, October 3rd, against the Cranbrook Bucks at 7pm. The game can be watched on HockeyTV or you can listen free on Mixlr.
