SMOKIES MAKE IT TWO IN A ROW AT HOME – DEFEAT WEST KELOWNA – 5-3

The Smoke Eaters jumped out to a 4-0 first period lead last night at the Cominco Arena and went on to defeat the visiting West Kelowna Warriors 5-3.

Kale Howarth opened the scoring for Trail at 11:03 with his 14th of the season.  Mitch Stapley recorded his 14th assist on the play.  Luke Santerno continued his scoring ways with Trail’s second goal at 13:26.  Josh Lamframboise and newcomer, Jonas Gordon both assisted on the play.  At 17:41, Braeden Tuck scored his second of the season to put Trail up 3-0.  Assisting on the goal was Mitchell Barker and captain, Connor Brown Maloski.  Luke Santerno then scored his 16th goal of the season and second of the game with assists going to Kale Howarth and Mitch Stapley.

The Warriors mounted a comeback in the second and scored three unanswered goals to pull within one of the Smokies, 4-3.  Josh Lamframboise scored his 12th of the season for the Smokies to put the home team up 5-3.  Kale Howarth, collecting his 17th assist on the season, and Connor Brown Maloski  with his 13th assisted on the goal.  It was a power play marker.  There was no scoring in the third as Trail took the win 5-3.

Shane Farkas and Josh Bolding shared the goaltending duties for the Warriors as Farkas was pulled after the first period.  Zach Dyment played the full 60 minutes for the Smokies making 28 saves on 31 shots.

First star of the game and his second nomination in two games was Luke Santerno.  Santerno scored four goals on Tuesday night against Salmon Arm and had two goals last night.  Kale Howarth was named second star with 1 goal and 2 assists.  Newcomer, Jonas Gordon was named third star.  Gordon was recently acquired in a trade from the Canmore Eagles of the AJHL.  Derek Smith of the Smokies was named the Fortis Energy Player of the Game.

The Smokies now go on the road for the next two weekends.  They travel to Wenatchee on Saturday night and next weekend travel to Powell River, Alberni Valley and Victoria.

The Smokies return home on Friday, November 25 when they face Chilliwack and then play Merritt Centennials on Saturday, November 26.  Both games are at the Cominco Arena.   Game time on Friday is 7:30 PM and on Saturday is 7:00 PM.
