SMOKIES TAKE GAME 1 IN HARD FOUGHT VICTORY

LINDEN MARSHALL – 28 SAVES ON THE NIGHT

In front of 2000 thumping thunder stick fans at the Cominco Arena the Trail Smoke Eaters defeated the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 4-2 to take game one of the best of seven series.  It was the first playoff series for the Smokies in 7 years and they got off on the right foot with the win at home.

Salmon Arm got on the scoreboard first at 4:52 of the first period with a power play marker by Nathan Iannone.

The Smokies tied the game early in the second period when Luke Santerno scored at 5:08 with assists going to Carter Cochrane and Mitchell Stapley, playing his first game after recovering from broken jaw.  The Smokies went up 2-1 at 7:31 on a goal by Connor Brown Maloski when he fired a high shot past Silverbacks goaltender Nic Tallarico.  Ross Armour and Carter Cochrane with his second of the night,  assisted on the goal.

SANTERNO TIES GAME EARLY IN SECOND

The Smokies strong second period carried over into the third when Kale Howarth scored at 4:01 to give Trail a 3-1 lead.  Luke Santerno and Troy Ring assisted on the marker.  After the Silverbacks pulled Tallrico for an extra attacker the Smokies put the icing on the cake just seconds later at 17:04 when Josh Laframboise scored into an empty net.  Luke Santerno with hid second assist on the night and Ethan Martini assisted on the goal.

CELEBRATING SMOKIE’S SECOND GOAL BY CONNOR BROWN MALOSKI 

First star of the game was Smokie’s Luke Santerno with a goal and two assists in the game, Smokie’s captain, Connor Brown Maloski, was named second star and Carter Cochrane with two assists was name third star.   Fortis Energy Player of the Game was Trail’s Mitchell Stapley playing in his first game back after a serious injury.

The second game goes tonight in Trail at the Cominco Arena.  Game time is 7:00 pm.
