TRAIL, B.C. – The Trail Smoke Eaters Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club has announced the team has acquired F Layne Sniher (‘00) and future considerations from the Prince George Spruce Kings in exchange for F Sean Donaldson (‘01).

Sniher, 18, comes to the Smoke Eaters after beginning his season with the Spruce Kings, registering no points in 9 games with 8 penalty minutes while spending the last two seasons with the Calgary Buffaloes Midget AAA squad. In 69 career Alberta Midget Hockey League (AMHL) games, the Calgary, Alberta collected 26 goals and 47 assists for 73 points along with 43 penalty minutes over his two-year span with the Buffaloes.

“We are excited to add Layne Sniher to our team,” commented Smoke Eaters General Manager and Head Coach Jeff Tambellini, “He is a very skilled player who is coming off an outstanding season in Alberta Midget AAA. I believe his game is going to fit into our style of play and he’ll be able to develop into a top end junior player.”

Donaldson, 17, scored once with four assists for five points in 12 games this season and came to Trail after scoring 36 goals and 66 points in 34 games with the Burnaby Winter Club’s Midget Prep team.

The Smoke Eaters would like to welcome Layne and his family to the City of Trail and the Smoke Eaters organization.

The Smoke Eaters are back on home ice this weekend for a two-game set beginning with a matchup against the reigning RBC Cup champion Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday night. Puck drop is slated for 7 PM from the Trail Memorial Centre with tickets available for purchase at the Smoke Eaters Main Office.
