Salmon Arm Silverbacks forward Casy Laylin, Trail Smoke Eaters forward Mathieu Cobetto-Roy and Surrey Eagles forward Aaron Schwartz have been named the NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week, from Jan. 12 to 17.
1st Star – Casy Laylin (F) – Salmon Arm Silverbacks
Laylin averaged an astounding four points per game last week as he scored four goals and added four helpers to help his team to two convincing wins.
The Silverbacks hosted the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Friday night and it turned out to be a career-best performance from the 20-year-old. He notched his first hat trick in the BCHL, as well as a career-high five points in Salmon Arm’s 11-2 victory. He was named first star of the game.
The following night, he scored once and chipped in with a pair of helpers in the Silverbacks 7-1 home win against the Merritt Centennials.
After his offensive outburst, Laylin sits second in team scoring with 27 points in 33 contests.
2nd Star – Mathieu Cobetto-Roy (F) – Trail Smoke Eaters
Cobetto-Roy finished the week with seven points in three games after piling up four goals and three assists, including his first-career BCHL hat trick.
He accomplished the three-goal milestone in last Friday’s contest against the Langley Rivermen. He scored Trail’s first two goals of the game in the opening period, then capped off his hat trick in the third to guide the Smokies to a 9-4 victory. He added an assist for a four-point night and was named the game’s first star.
On Sunday, he chipped in with an assist in a 4-1 home win over the Prince George Spruce Kings, then posted a goal and a helper in yesterday’s 3-2 triumph over the Cranbrook Bucks in the final game before the BCHL’s All-Star break.
Cobetto-Roy now has 34 points in 34 games to sit tied for ninth in BCHL scoring, while his 18 goals are sixth most in the league.
3rd Star – Aaron Schwartz (F) – Surrey Eagles
Schwartz led his team with five points in two games last week in a pair of Eagles victories over Mainland rivals.
The Quinnipiac University commit registered an assist in Friday’s 4-2 win against the Coquitlam Express, then on Saturday, he exploded for four points in Surrey’s 5-4 overtime victory over the Chilliwack Chiefs. With a goal and two assists already in his pocket, Schwartz tied the game with under three minutes to play to force extra time and allow the Eagles to eventually score the game-winner.
The 19-year-old is the BCHL’s fourth-leading scorer with 42 points in 30 games and is the league’s second-leading assist man with 28.
