Trail Smoke Eaters forward Mathieu Cobetto-Roy, Surrey Eagles forward Caden Cranston and Salmon Arm Silverbacks defenceman Tristan Allen have been named the FortisBC 3 Stars of the Month.

1st Star – Mathieu Cobetto-Roy (F) – Trail Smoke Eaters

In six January games, Cobetto-Roy had six goals, tied for the most in the league, and 11 points, one back of top spot.

He had a point in five of six games, including three multi-point outings. His biggest performance came in a Jan. 12 game against the Langley Rivermen where he finished with four points and his first-career BCHL hat trick in a 9-4 win. He closed out the month with another strong outing on Jan. 27, getting in on all three Smokies goals with a goal and two helpers in a 3-1 win against the Vernon Vipers.

Cobetto-Roy is in the top-10 in BCHL scoring this year with 36 points in 36 games, while his 19 goals are tied for fifth most in the league.

2nd Star – Caden Cranston (F) – Surrey Eagles

Cranston tied for the league lead in points last month, averaging two per game with 12 points in six contests on three goals and nine assists.

The Merrimack College commit had points in all but one game in January, finishing with at least two points on four different occasions. In his last game before the All-Star Break, Cranston had a four-assist outing on Jan. 13 in a 5-4 overtime win over the Chilliwack Chiefs, then after winning All-Star MVP at the outdoor 3-on-3 tournament, he notched a goal and two assists in his first game back, a 5-3 victory over the Langley Rivermen.

The 19-year-old is the BCHL’s top scorer with 53 points in 32 games. His 22 goals and 31 assists both rank second in the league.

3rd Star – Tristan Allen (D) – Salmon Arm Silverbacks

Allen led all defencemen in points during the month, while also tying for the overall scoring lead with 12 points in seven games. His 11 assists were also the most among any player in January.

With points in five of seven games, the Rochester Institute of Technology commit capped of his month with back-to-back massive performances against the Prince George Spruce Kings. On Jan. 26, Allen put up a trio of assists in a 5-3 win over PG, then followed it up in the rematch the following night with his second-straight three-assist outing in a 6-0 victory.

The Kamloops, B.C. product is the BCHL’s second-leading point-getter among defencemen with 35 in 35 games. His 30 assists lead all blueliners and is tied for third among all skaters.
