GAME RECAP: Glasman Helps Smokies To 6-3 Victory Over Silverbacks

SEPTEMBER 14th, 2018

TRAIL, B.C. – The Trail Smoke Eaters got a pair of goals from Levi Glasman and three goals on the man advantage to help them to their first win on home ice, a 6-3 victory over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Friday night at the Trail Memorial Centre.

Levi Glasman scored his second goal of the night on a shorthanded breakaway that proved to be the dagger as the Smoke Eaters earned their first victory on home ice in a special teams filled affair that saw Trail come away with the three-goal victory, their 8th straight win over Salmon Arm.

The Smoke Eaters were first to hit the scoresheet in a special teams driven opening period and came courtesy of a power play at the 3:12 mark as Hayden Rowan collected his 3rd goal of the season, scoring for the third straight contest. Rowan flipped a puck past Salmon Arm goaltender Devin Chapman on the southpaw’s blocker side from the side of the net that gave Trail a 1-0 lead.

It didn’t take long for the Silverbacks to answer as just 34 seconds after the Rowan marker, Tyson Gayfer found the back of the net for his first BCHL goal. Gayfer took an end wall bounce that came to the front of the net and put it past Smoke Eaters netminder Adam Marcoux on the blocker side to tie the game at 1-1 at the 3:46 mark of the opening period.

Hudson Schandor gave the visitors their first lead of the game at the 8:54 mark of the 1st frame on a power play of their own as a scramble in front of the net saw Schandor push the puck past Marcoux and put the Silverbacks ahead by a goal.

The Smoke Eaters used the strength of another power play goal to help them to get the game tied at the 17:02 mark of the 1st period as Levi Glasman collected his 1st goal of the season. Kent Johnson spun a pass from behind the net to the side of the goal as Glasman tapped home the feed and tied the game 2-2 at the 17:02 mark of the opening frame.

An undisciplined 2nd period for the Silverbacks saw the Smoke Eaters get another lead, jumping ahead by a 3-2 score on a 5-on-3 power play goal at the 12:21 mark of the middle stanza. Jones took a pass from Braeden Tuck to the glove side of Chapman and found the open goal for his 1st tally of the season and give Trail a one-goal lead.

Mack Byers added a late period marker, the first that at even strength for the Smoke Eaters, with just a minute remaining in the 2nd period, catching Salmon Arm on a change. Kyle Budvarson head manned the pass to the blue line where Sean Donaldson cut to the left and passed to the right for Byers to get a shot past Chapman for the two-goal lead.

The Silverbacks got a 5-on-3 power play of their own and cut the deficit to one on a one-time pass from Akito Hirose to set up Trevor Adams at the top of the right face-off circle as the shot beat Marcoux through the legs at the 6:57 mark to make it a 4-3 Trail lead.

Levi Glasman put the game on ice at the 8:28 mark with a shorthanded goal, his second of the game, after taking a chip from Bryce Anderson in the middle of the ice and snapping a shot on the glove side of Chapman on the breakaway to give Trail a 5-3 advantage.

The Smoke Eaters would add another goal of insurance, coming courtesy of Trevor Zins for his second goal of the season at the 10:45 mark and finished off a 6-3 score in favour of the home side. Adam Marcoux made 27 saves on 30 shots for his second win of the season while Devin Chapman turned aside 22 of the 28 shots thrown his way in his first career BCHL start.
