Preview – Smoke Eaters Aim to Play Streak Busters against the Vees on Saturday Night

The Smoke Eaters will look to play the role of streak busters as the Penticton Vees come to town or the final time this season.

Season series versus Penticton:

Oct. 15 Trail 3 at Penticton 4 Final OT
Dec. 11 Penticton 6 at Trail 3 Final
Feb. 5 Trail 2 at Penticton 8 Final
Feb. 12 Penticton at Trail 7:00 pm PST
Mar. 5 Trail at Penticton 6:00 pm PST

The Smoke Eaters will have to pick themselves up after Friday night’s loss on home ice to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, who came into Trail and put up eight goals on the Smoke Eaters. While the Smoke Eaters did outshoot Salmon Arm 50-39 in the game, it was the errors that Salmon Arm was able to take advantage of that the Smoke Eaters couldn’t. Both teams made errors on the night but the Silverbacks where able to find the net on most occasions. Now the Smoke Eaters have a visit from the Vees, who come in on a eight game win streak. The Smoke Eaters will once again be asking their depth players to step up. The line of Parsons, Remissong and Strobel was effective at times during Friday’s game, a line that if it stays together might cause the Vees some problems. The Smoke Eaters know they’ll need a full 60 minute effort against Penticton if they are to snap their losing streak.

Smoke Eaters leading scorers:

Hunter (18-26-44)
Michaelis (22-15-37)
Lagerback (16-18-34)
Disher (9-20-29)
Cunningham (7-19-26)

As mentioned the Vees come in on a eight game win streak, looking to make it nine tonight against the Smoke Eaters. The Vees come in off an overtime win on Wednesday night against the Vernon Vipers. The Vipers fought back in that game down from 3-1 going into the third to force OT. The Vees then won the game off the stick of Braden Doyle. The Vees also have a new sniper with them, Russian born Aydar Suniev, who joined the team this week to replace their injured captain Fin Williams. Suniev scored in his BCHL debut and adds another threat from the Vees who already have a highly powered offense. This is the Vees lone game on the weekend, they’ll follow this game up with a Wednesday night meeting at the Shaw Centre to take on the Silverbacks.

Vees leading scorers:

Wilson (20-31-51)
Nadeau (28-22-50)
Williams (12-25-37)
Nadeau (14-18-32)
Moravec (18-13-31)
