Preview – Smoke Eaters close out home Schedule against the Wild

It’s the final home game of the regular season and the Smoke Eaters are hoping to go into the final weekend of the season on the right note, as the Wenatchee Wild come to town.

The Smoke Eaters will be out to prove the Wednesday night’s loss in Vernon was just an off night and not something they want to make a regular habit. Going into Friday’s game the Smoke Eaters will be focused on getting back into the win column, or at the very least leave the ice feeling good about their game, with just one more to go in Salmon Arm on Saturday night before playoffs begin. They will get help either tonight or tomorrow in the crease with Cole Tisdale slated to get some game time this weekend, whether that’s tonight against the Wild is a decision the coaching staff will have to make. It’s also bound to be an emotional filled night with the six 20 year-old players on the Smoke Eaters roster being recognized prior to puck drop, followed by year end player awards at the conclusion of the game.

Smoke Eaters leading scorers:

Hunter (21-35-56)
Michaelis (27-23-50)
Lagerback (24-24-48)
Disher (12-25-37)
Wolford (12-20-32)

The Wild, after winning three in a row against the Smoke Eaters last week, are coming off a 4-3 loss on Wednesday night to the Penticton Vees. The Wild and Vees were tied 3-3 into the third period before the Vees broke the deadlock and held on for the win. The Wild have yet to win in Trail this year losing the first one in overtime and the other two in regulation. After this the Wild will head to Cranbrook to wrap up their season before their first round match up against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

Wild leading scorers:

Somoza (15-38-53)
Littler (20-25-45)
Emerson (14-23-37)
Szydlowski (14-17-31)
Stibbe (14-16-30)

It’s awards night here at Cominco as the Smoke Eaters wrap up their home schedule for the regular season. Puck drop is 7:05pm as the Smoke Eaters and Wild face off for the final time this season!
