Game one had its fireworks as the Vees and Smoke Eaters began another chapter in their long and illustrious history. The Smoke Eaters struck gold twice in the opening five minutes which turned the game on its head and shocked everyone inside the SOEC not in orange. But the Vees despite the early deficit showed composure and worked their way back into the hockey game eventually leading to a 3-3 tie going to the third period. But the Smoke Eaters got the go ahead early in the third and then shit the Vees out, as Dallas Calvin said post game, that was one of the best third periods the Smoke Eaters have played this season. Now going into game two both coaching staffs will be telling their teams there’s still a long way to go in this series.

The effort of Cole Tisdale can’t be overlooked either as the Smoke Eaters netminder stopped 39 shots while his counter part Kaedan Lane allowed four goals on 20 shots. Lane who’s been one of the top goaltenders in the league this year will definitely be wanting a better performance from himself going into game two. The officials also let the two teams play last night with the Vees having one more powerplay opportunity than the Smoke Eaters, the difference was, in the second period the Vees were able to score on the powerplay that tied the game at three while the Smoke Eaters went 0/3. That will be one area the Smoke Eaters will want to improve on and capitalize on their special team chances.
