Preview – Smoke Eaters head South for First Trip to Wenatchee

The Smoke Eaters make their first trip south of the boarder in over two years, as they take on the Wenatchee Wild on Wednesday night.

Season series versus Wenatchee:

Oct. 30 Wenatchee 1 at Trail 4 Final
Feb. 27 Wenatchee 3 at Trail 6 Final
Mar. 9 Trail at Wenatchee 6:00 pm PST

Mar. 18 Trail at Wenatchee 7:05 pm PDT
Mar. 19 Trail at Wenatchee 6:00 pm PDT

The Smoke Eaters will head into Wenatchee a little shorthanded this week as they’ll be missing three of their regulars due to suspension and a handful more due to injuries. That being said it’s an opportunity for someone else on the team to step up and help push the Smoke Eaters to what would be two valuable points. The Smoke Eaters sit three points back of the Wild in the battle for 7th place in the Interior Conference with 4 more games between these to clubs to follow tonight’s match up. The Smoke Eaters had some success against the wild just a week and a half ago as they picked up a 6-3 win over their rivals from the south.

Smoke Eaters leading scorers:

Hunter (21-35-56)
Michaelis (24-21-45)
Lagerback (21-21-42)
Disher (12-23-35)
Wolford (10-18-28)

The Wild come into Wednesday’s game winners of two of their last three games, all on home ice, as they wrap up a four game homestand of their own. On Wednesday last week the Wild took two points from the West Kelowna Warriors in a 3-1 win. They would lose their next game to Cranbrook 4-2 on Saturday, but would follow that up with a 3-0 shutout win on Sunday over the Bucks. The win increased the Wild’s lead on the Smoke Eaters in the 7 and 8 seed battle. The Wild will host the Smoke Eaters for three straight games next week that could decide where these teams sit and who they will play in the first round of the playoffs.

Wild leading scorers:

Somoza (13-32-45)
Littler (16-21-37)
Emerson (9-21-30)

Puck drop from the Town Toyota Centre is set for 6pm and can be caught on BCHLTV. There will be no away broadcast for tonight’s game, fans can listen in to Arch Ecker who has the call for the Wenatchee Wild.
