Recap – Smoke Eaters explode in the second period, Beat Cents 9-2 on the road.

The Smoke Eaters complete their road trip with an emphatic 9-2 road win as they earn 4 of 6 points on the week following the win against the Centennials on Saturday night.

It wasn’t a clean period by any means for the Smoke Eaters but regardless they took their chances and lead 2-0 after twenty minutes. Credit to the Cents who started the game on the front foot and had multiple shifts in the Smoke Eaters end. The Smoke Eaters opened the scoring two minutes in as Teddy Lagerback would score his first of three on the night. Disher and Strobel all combined on the rush that lead to Lagerback getting the puck at the top of the slot to fire home the goal on the Smoke Eaters first shot on the night.

The Smoke Eaters then held firm despite being outshot in the first and would score their second with a shorthanded goal from Ridge Dawson as Wolford won the race on the dump in and found Dawson all alone in the slot who went blocker side on Maddocks.

In the second it was full steam ahead for the Smokies who scored six times including two on the powerplay and scored another shorthanded goal. Connor Michaud scored the powerplay goal as he was able to put the puck in behind Maddocks after the shot from Strobel hit the post and sat loose in the crease. Cunningham would tuck in another loose puck after a 3 on 0 lead to a goal for the Smoke Eaters. Minutes later the Smoke Eaters would get another odd man rush as Michaelis and Lagerback came in with Lagerback finishing off the play making it 5-0 as he got his second of the night.

The Smoke Eaters didn’t stop their either getting another powerplay goal that was tipped twice in the point shot from Bushy as Lagerback tipped it down to Wolford who had the final touch before the puck crossed the line making it 6-0. The Michaelis would score on a offensive turnover forced by the Smoke Eaters as Brady Hunter took the puck and fed Michaelis who went glove side past Maddocks for the touchdown goal. The Smoke Eaters finished the second with another short handed goal as Disher stripped the puck almost pulled off the spectacular but left the puck behind but Lagerback was there for the loose puck to score his first BCHL Hat-Trick and round out a dominant period from the Smoke Eaters.

The Smoke Eaters then allowed two in 12 seconds as the Cents pushed following the media timeout as they knocked home two rebounds to get on the board. Brady Hunter would then respond moments later to make it 9-2 and would see the game out.

The Smoke Eaters now return home for two massive home games as they’ll host the Vernon Vipers on Friday night and the Penticton Vees the next. Don’t miss any of the action and get your tickets at tickets.trailsmokeeaters.com
