RECAP – Smoke Eaters Fail To Solve Airey In Shutout Loss To Cranbrook

After a hard fought and close game on Saturday in Trail the Smoke Eaters were hoping to return the favour and crash the Bucks home opener on Saturday, however Nathan Airey and the Bucks held firm for a 6-0 win at home.

The first period for the Smoke Eaters was a positive one, they outshot the Bucks 12-6 in the opening twenty minutes, and where a crossbar away from opening the scoring. The Smoke Eaters carried much of the play as well, but couldn’t crack Nathan Airey. The Bucks would take the lead to the dressing room after Nick Peluso scored his first BCHL goal to give the Bucks a 1-0 lead.

The second period, after a mix of penalties the Bucks would double up their lead with a goal that took it’s toll on the morale of the Smoke Eaters as Jack Silich scored on the powerplay on a deflected shot past Tisdale. Peluso would score his second of the night with a quick wrist shot from the right circle that found it’s way past the crowd and off the inside of the post and in, giving the Bucks a 3-0 lead on home ice heading to the third.

The Smoke Eaters never got a chance to establish themselves in the third as the Bucks came out fast and hit early, as Bucks Captain Rhys Bentham picked the corner with a seeing-eye wrist shot from the point the nestled in the top corner. The Bucks would add another on the powerplay and one more shorthanded to seal the win with a 6-0 home ice win over the Smoke Eaters.

Trail now looks ahead to next weekend as they begin a four game homestand and look to turn the page on what has been a slower start to the season than they were hoping for. While it’s still early the Smoke Eaters will look to take advantage of this homestand and get their season off and running.
