RECAP – Smoke Eaters Leave Wenatchee With Three Of Four Points After Shootout Win

It was another comeback performance and a strong showing from the Smoke Eaters penalty kill as Trail scored twice in the shootout to win 3-2 over the Wenatchee Wild on Saturday night.

It took almost two full periods before we got the games first goal as both goaltenders were perfect through the first and Teagan Kendrick was excellent in the second period despite allowing the games first goal on a 2-on-1 he didn’t have much of a chance on. The Wild lead 28-22 on the shots after two periods as Luke Weilandt broke the scoreless deadlock with under five minutes to play in the middle frame.

The Wild then had a perfect start to the third period. Holding a 1-0 lead the wild would again strike on a 2-on-1 as Christian Kim and Micah Berger went back and forth twice, showing great patience as Kim sent the final pass to Berger who had an open net to shot at. Despite another run of penalties against the Smoke Eaters they stayed composed and worked their wat back into the game, as on a powerplay of their own Hunter, with the help of Remissong, dug the puck from the left corner and passed off to Cobetto-Roy at the right point, all alone who walked in to beat Wild netminder Owen Millward to get the Smoke Eaters of the board.

The Smoke Eaters would then tie the game just as their second powerplay came to an end, as Brady Hunter, who had a strong weekend, tied the game as he had the night before, scoring from the right circle.

For the second night in a row overtime and subsequently, a shootout would be needed to decide the extra point. Kendrick would stop both shooters while Josh Schenk and Brady Hunter would both score, giving the Smoke Eaters a 3-2 win.

The Smoke Eaters wrap up their weekend on the road with three of four points to keep themselves above Wenatchee in the standings as they prepare for one more meeting this coming Friday against the Wild back on home ice.
