Smoke Eaters Finalize Leadership Group While Bolstering Roster

Smoke Eaters finalize leadership group, bolster roster ahead of December 1st start date.

Trail, British Columbia (November 6th, 2020) – The Smoke Eaters are excited to announce their 2020/21 leadership group while also officially welcoming in committed players and a new signing.

The Smoke Eaters are pleased to announce that along with captain Cody Schiavon, second year forwards Connor Sweeney and Chase Dafoe have been named assistant captains for this season. Both Sweeney and Dafoe have five points in four games so far through the exhibition schedule as they continue to lead both on an off the ice. Both players who have NHL ties have emerged as leaders among this years young core of players, helping them adjust to the BCHL.

Smoke Eaters Make Roster Additions Official

As the league wide roster cut down deadline passed on October 31st, the Smoke Eaters have made some official commitments to players and formally added them to the roster. Firstly in net #35 Cayden Hamming is now an official member of the Trail Smoke Eaters. Hamming, whose been in Trail since the start of training camp, came in fighting for that number two spot and has earned that. Playing in two games so far, Hamming has been exceptional, with a 0.964 SV% and a 1.16 GAA. The 17-year-old from Vernon, BC, played last season with the Okanagan Rockets of the BC U18 (formally the BCMML). The Smoke Eaters are also excited to make the signing of Ethan Floris official. The 18-year-old from Vanderhoof, BC, was a key piece for the Cariboo Cougars, also of the BC U18 league, for the last two seasons. Floris has emerged as a solid young prospect for the Smoke Eaters, playing multiple times on the top defensive pairing with Schiavon. Floris had 30 points in 77 games in Cariboo. The Smoke Eaters would like to officially welcome and congratulate Cayden and Ethan on becoming Smoke Eaters.

 

Smoke Eaters Add WHL Forward on Loan From Red Deer

The final addition of the day sees the Smoke Eaters welcome in WHL forward Ben King on loan from the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League. Like Mitchell Prowse, King joins the Smoke Eaters on loan as an opportunity to still develop and play meaningful hockey until such a time as the WHL season begins. King, and 18-year-old from Vernon, has played 117 WHL games and added 72 points during that time, playing with both the Swift Current Broncos and the Red Deer Rebels last season. King joined the team earlier this week and is expected to make his Smoke Eaters debut Friday night in Cranbrook. The Smoke Eaters are excited to welcome Ben to Trail and look forward to seeing him succeed with the Smoke Eaters.
