SMOKIES LOSE HEARTBREAKER TO VEES IN DOUBLE O/T

After losing 6-4 to Prince George on Thursday night the Smokies rebounded in Penticton on Saturday night and pushed the league leading Penticton Vees to double O/T.  Nicholas Jones of the Vees scored with just 1 second left in double O/T to sink the Smokies 3-2.  However, the Smokies earned a well deserved and much needed single point.

The Vees lead 1-0 after the first period on a goal by Jonny Tychonick at 14:24.

The Smoke Eaters answered in the second at 9:47 when Ryan Moon notched the game at 1, assisted on by Mitch Stapley.

In the third period Ryan Warner put Trail in the lead 2-1 at 15:19 on a power play goal, assisted on by Braeden Tuck.  The Vees tied the score at 2 when Grant Cruikshank scored at the 18:26 mark to send the game into overtime.

The teams played to a scoreless first overtime period and with just one second left to go in the second overtime period Nicholas Jones gave the win to the Vees when he scored at 4:59.

The Smokies were 1/3 on the power play and the Vees went 0/3,  On the night the Vees outshot the Smokies 46 – 26.  Zach Dyment, Trail stopper, made 43 saves on the night and earned him third star honors.

On Thursday night in Prince George the Smokies led 3-2 after two periods but were outscored 4-1 in the final frame to drop a 6-4 decision to the Spruce Kings.  Scoring for Trail were Kale Howarth, Luke Santerno, Joshua Lamframboise and Ryan Murphy.  Braeden Tuck had two assists on the night for the Smokies and Luke Santerno was named third star of the game.  The Smokies were 1/4 on the power play and PG went 2/4.

Smokies next game is at home against the Merritt Centennials on Wednesday, October 5 at the Cominco Arena.   Game time is 7:00 PM.
