The Cowichan Valley Capitals rolled into Trail on Friday evening and proved why they are leading the Island Division of the BCHL. Ryan Burton, first star of the game, and Carter Cochrane of the Capitals scored a goal each in the first period for a 2-0 lead and that is all they would need going on to defeat the Smokies at he Cominco Arena 6-1. In the second period Kyle Star of the Smoke Eaters pulled Trail to within 1 when he scored at 1:28 of the period. Jake Kauppila assisted on the goal. The Capitals then scored three of their own taking a 5-1 second periond lead to the dressing rooom. Kade Kehoe of the Capitals rounded out the scoring for the Capitals at 10:30 of the third for the 6-1 win. Trail went 0 for 6 on the power play while the Capitals were 2 for 5. Ryan Burton of the Capitals was named first star of the game, Storm Phaneuf, the Capitals goalteder was named second star and Kyle Star of the Smokies was named third star. On the night the Smokies outshot the Capitals 38 – 35.
