PREVIEW – Smoke Eaters Return Home To Take On Warriors

Winners of three in a row and points in their last four games, the Smoke Eaters will put their streak on the line back on home ice as the West Kelowna Warriors come to town.

Season series against West Kelowna:

Oct. 8 West Kelowna 3 at Trail 4 Final OT
Dec. 10 West Kelowna at Trail 7:00 pm PST
Jan. 6 Trail at West Kelowna 7:00 pm PST
Feb. 18 Trail at West Kelowna 7:00 pm PST
Feb. 24 Trail at West Kelowna 7:00 pm PST

Coming off Friday night’s road win in Merritt the Smoke Eaters switch their attention to defending home ice as the West Kelowna Warriors come to town. The Smoke Eaters needed 8 rounds of the shootout to get past the Centennials last night, as a late first period goal from Cobetto-Roy was canceled out late in the third by Trail native Jacob Smith for the Centennials. Kendrick stood tall though all night long, stopping 38 of 39 and 7 of 8 in the shootout. Despite just the one goal the Smoke Eaters played well, the penalty kill went 5/5 and the powerplay hit as well. Those are two aspects that the Smoke Eaters will need to bring into tonight’s game against the Warriors who possess the fourth best powerplay in the BCHL.

Smoke Eaters leading scorers:

Hunter (7-15-22)
Cobetto-Roy (8-12-20)
Bushy (3-17-20)
Fechko (7-12-19)
Parsons (9-9-18)

The Warriors, currently third in the Interior Conference, come to Trail off a 5-2 loss in Cranbrook on Friday night. The Warriors, 4-5-1 in their last ten games will look to avoid a repeat from their last Kootenay Trip, where in October they lost in overtime to Cranbrook on the Friday and then again to Trail on the Saturday. Prior to their loss against the Bucks, the Warriors had won 4 of five games with their lone loss being a overtime defeat to the Penticton Vees, where the Warriors held a 2-0 lead into the third but couldn’t hold on. The Warriors allowed three in the second period last night that decided the game after a 2-1 score line in the first, they’ll be looking for a more complete 60 minute effort tonight.

Warriors leading scorers:

Moriello (14-10-24)
MacDonald (9-12-21)
Norlin (3-18-21)
Nelson (7-13-20)
Caron (6-11-17)
