RECAP: Smoke Eaters bounce back against the Bucks winning 3-1

Tim Fragle and the coaching staff got the response they wanted from their group as the Smoke Eaters battled back to tie up the Kootenay Cup series at 1.

With changes on either side, game two of this pre-season tournament got off to a slower start than Friday nights game. That being said it was the Smoke Eaters with the best chances to open the scoring, as Jaden Senkoe had an opportunity short handed part way through the first denied by Bucks goaltender Christian Triannni. Then in the dying moments of the first Ethan Floris had his point shot hit the inside of the post and deflect out.

In the second period the Smoke Eaters and Bucks again traded chances. But it was the speed of the Smoke Eaters that made the difference as this game went on. First it was Connor Sweeney with his blistering speed after the powerplay had expired that burst up the left wing, past a Bucks defender, for a wrap around attempt that came out to Connor Michaud who scored his third goal of the pre-season.

The Bucks would answer with a shorthanded goal after a mix up in the Smoke Eaters defensive end allowed Nathan Fox to force a turnover that he eventually forced in past Hamming for the 1-1 goal. The home side then answered quickly as they had multiple strong shifts after allowing the goal that ultimately lead to a Bucks penalty and to the Smoke Eaters firs powerplay goal of the pre-season, courtesy of Zack Feaver, who scores his first goal as a member of the Trail Smoke Eaters, a goal that would end up being the game winner.

The Smoke Eaters would take a 2-1 lead to the third period as they looked to close this game out. The Bucks however were gifted an opportunity to tie this game early in the third after a neutral zone turnover led to a 2-0, but Hamming stood tall to make the save.

The Smoke Eaters then played a perfect third, limiting the Bucks chances and playing simple as they saw this game out. Feaver would add a second of the night with an empty net goal with under two minutes to go to seal the victory for the Smokies. Trail finished 1/4 on the powerplay and killed all five penalties they took.
