RECAP: Smoke Eaters fall 4-1 to the Chiefs on Sunday afternoon.

The Smoke Eaters were unable to provide the rebound performance they wanted as they fall 4-1 to the Chiefs on Sunday afternoon.

With a mix of new lines to work with this weekend for head coach Jeff Tambellini, he’s got a list of both positives and negatives to take from a weekend where the Smoke Eaters played three very difficult games, without four of the best players in the league.

The Chiefs would open the game with the first four goals helped by some pretty unique bounces. In the first Garrett Valk sent a puck towards the net from the right point that hit a stick and went wide left to a wide open Kyle Penney who had an entire net to shoot the puck.

The Chiefs extended their lead with a three goal second period as Penney pick up his second in the power play,  as he swiped the puck towards the net that made it underneath the pad of Logan Terness making it 2-0. Later in the second Tommy Lyons would score on a rush down the left wing and beat Terness under the arm. He then scored again as a shot from Nikita Nesterenko went high overtop the net, hit the back glass and came out front for Lyons who was able to chip it over Terness for a 4-0 lead after two periods.

The Smoke Eaters tried to start a comeback and had a dominant third period, as Cody Schiavon picked up his first as a Smoke Eater with a shot from the point. Connor Sweeney and Tyler Ghirardosi both hit the post as the Smoke Eaters swarmed the Chiefs but couldn’t get any more past Kolby Thornton,  who played a strong game in net for Chilliwack.

The Smoke Eaters don’t have time to dwell on the weekend results as they host the Wenatchee Wild on Wednesday night back at Cominco.
