RECAP: Smoke Eaters fall 5-2 to the Rivermen on Saturday night

In a back and forth game it was the Rivermen who made the most of their chances en rout to a 5-2 win over the Smoke Eaters.

In the first Matteo Paler-Chow was called upon early to make some massive saves for the Smoke Eaters, as the Rivermen tried to get the teddy bears to fly early. They finally broke through at 9:20 of the first as Brian Scoville’s shot form the left point made it through the screen to make it 1-0 Rivermen. Langley would make it 2-0 seven minutes later on a goal from Kaden Patrick. The Smoke Eaters got a goal late though from Chase Dafoe, who’s hot play continues with his second goal in as many games with just 13s left in the first period.

The Rivermen would get the lone goal of the second period as Jake Livingstone, in his return from the lineup from a five game suspension, scored on the power play. The Smoke Eaters found themselves down 3-1 for a second consecutive game going to the third.

However in the third it was a perfect start for the boys in orange and black as Connor Sweeney pick up his second of they year after a shot from Dafoe created a rebound that only Sweeney was able to find, making it 3-2 Rivermen just 18s in. The Rivermen had an answer though as just over a minute later Patrick would score his second and make it 4-2 Rivermen. Devin Leduc would add an empty netter in the final minute with the Smoke Eaters pushing for the tying goal.

The Smoke Eaters now look to finish this road trip off on a positive note with one more game against the Chilliwack Chiefs Sunday at 2pm.
