Recap – Smoke Eaters fall on Thursday night to the Wenatchee Wild

The Smoke Eaters fail to capitalize on their chances and the Wild make them pay with a 6-2 win over the Smoke Eaters on Thursday night.

The game didn’t start as the Smoke Eaters would have liked as a defensive breakdown ends up in the back of their net just 26 seconds in. Trail would level the game out 7 minutes later as Teddy Lagerback scored again in Wenatchee, as he faked the back post slap shot and wrapped the puck around the Wenatchee net and in for a 1-1 tie.

The Wild would then answer back in a bunch, scoring three goals in four minutes to take a 4-1 lead. The Wild would force a goaltender change after the third goal as Owen Albers stepped in, but he would be beaten by a laser of a shot from Cade Stibbe moments later to send the wild to the intermission up 4-1.

The Smoke Eaters answered early in the second as Corey Cunningham picked up his ninth of the year, scoring off a break from Disher as he found the rebound to cut into the Wenatchee lead.

The Smoke Eaters then dominated the next five minutes as they looked to get within one but they just couldn’t solve Tyler Shea. The Wild would call a timeout that proved pivotal as they would respond within the next two shifts by scoring their 5-2 goal as Travis Bohnet unloaded from the right point to beat Alberts.

The Wild would add one more in the third period, as they shut the door in the Smoke Eaters to take the first of the three game series 6-2. The Smoke Eaters will look to bounce back and get back in the win column on Friday back at the Town Toyota Centre
