RECAP: Smoke Eaters weekend sweep thwarted by the Storm

It seemed like one of those nights right from the off as the Grand Prairie Storm got a bit of revenge over the Trail Smoke Eaters with a 4-3 win Sunday afternoon

The Storm who started strong Saturday night came out flying once again and were able to force a turnover as Gabriel Waked came out to play the puck. As he reversed it behind his own net Erkkila read the play, picked off the pass and centred for Jackson Savoie who beat a scrambling Waked to open the scoring.

Kent Johnson would get his first of the preseason on the powerplay to open the second period with this rocket!

The Smoke Eaters then found themselves in some penalty trouble of their own as the Storm would score twice, both courtesy of Savoie who completed his hat-trick part way through the second.

Johnson and Mike Colella then combined late in the second to bring the game within one going to the break in a play that had everyone fooled.

The teams would trade goals in the third as Johnson would get his second and Lukas Konashuk would get the game winner for the Storm who held on for the win. Kaden Lane was outstanding for the Storm stopping 31 of 34 and coming up with plenty of big saves in the third to secure the victory. The Storm head back to Grand Prairie with a 2-1 record vs the BCHL.

As for the Smoke Eaters they drop to 1-1 in the preseason. They’ll look to shore things up next weekend as the West Kelowna Warriors come to town on Friday August 30th for the first half of a home and home series.
