Smoke Eater, Kale Howarth, has committed to Northern Michigan University of the NCAA’S division 1 Western Collegiate Hockey Association comprised of Michigan Tech, Lake Superior State, Bowling Green, Bemidji State, Alabama-Huntsville, Alaska and Ferris State. Earlier this year, Ross Armour of the Smokies committed to Bimidji State.
In 53 games for the Smokies last season, Kale had 12 goals, 15 assists for 27 points. This season, in 13 games he has 7 goals and 8 assists for 15 points. Howarth is a native of Red Deer Alberta and is 19 years old. His 6′ 5″, 205 lb. frame has given the Smokies a much needed physical presence this year.
